31 Aug More Than Just a Farm, It’s Family Fun
Emerald Farm owners Kathryn and Paul Zahn have created a truly unique destination with big-time kid appeal. Their property is lovely, with acres and acres of rolling hills, big trees and a fish pond. But, one of the best aspects is that there is no charge to visit!
Kathryn focuses her energies on raising Saanen goats, a large dairy breed originally from Switzerland. Mellow and eager to please, these goats are a treat to visit and are especially good with children. Guests are invited to feed, play with and milk the friendly critters, and you better believe that watching your child milk a goat is priceless. Saanens are big milk producers, and Kathryn crafts a particularly fine goat’s milk soap in the farm’s very own soap factory. Herbs grown on-site are used for scenting the soap – a stroll through the herb garden is delightful for all ages.
The flip side of the enterprise is Paul’s domain, and it’s also a surefire winner for kids. Paul is a hobbyist with a passion for models plans and trains. He operates shops devoted to model and RC planes galore, and enough model trains and supplies to make your head spin. The train shop also features a massive working layout bustling with railroad activity – your little Thomas the Tank Engine fan will consider this paradise. Kathryn makes train-shaped soaps, too. If the goats don’t win them over, the trains will!
Take a ride around the farm on a train with rubberized wheels!
Don’t leave without browsing through the Natural Foods Store. You’ll find all manner of goat’s milk soaps, lotions and bath products, plus a tempting array of natural and health-conscious goodies from salty snacks to almond butter to organic chocolate. Pick out something tasty and enjoy a picnic, down on the farm.
