Archery Park Anyone?

Archery Park Anyone?

Historically, archery was used for hunting and combat. Today it is mostly a competitive sport and a recreational activity. A person who takes part in archery is typically called an archer or a bowman. At the only resort state park in South Carolina,,Hickory Knob State Resort Park, you can become an archer! The park uses recurve bows. These are like the ones used by Robin Hood and his Merry Men. However, these are made from fiberglass.

A visit to Hickory Knob, as it is commonly referred to, will offer you the opportunity to enjoy a popular sport. A park ranger will instruct you on how to brace the bow using the step-through method. You will be given instructions before you ever rear back and point.

The range features different yard markers such as 5 yards to 40 yards in distance. Chances are your first shot may go way off base. But, don’t despair, the more comfortable you get, the better chance you have to hit the bull’s eye. The cost to enjoy this challenging sport is very minimal and includes instruction. You will want to make reservations in advance either by calling the park office at (864) 391-2450 or stopping by the front desk of the lodge.

Archery has its own national governing body.It is the organization recognized by the U.S. Olympic Committee for the purpose of selecting and training men’s and women’s teams to represent the U.S. in the Olympic, Paralympic, and Pan American Games. Headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the National Archery Association, known today as USA Archery, was formed in 1879 to foster and promote the sport of archery.

Some good advice to anyone doing archery is simply to ease up and have a good time! There is no one secret to a great archery experience. It is about good equipment, good training and good mindset!
