In this district of just five counties, there are six state parks and one national forest, and usually where there are state parks, there are trails. Mountain and motor bikers, and hikers and horseback riders will love the almost 200 miles of trails in the Old 96 District. All skill levels are welcome; novice day-trippers can follow the paths for easy hikes, or serious backpackers and bikers can connect different trails with fire and access roads to embark on multi-day adventures. Even the Palmetto Trail, a proposed 425-mile trail through South Carolina, will pass through northern Laurens County along the Enoree River.
Road cyclists can also enjoy the many back roads of the five counties, enjoying the scenery as they pass farms, rolling hills, quaint towns and historical places.
South Carolina has much to offer in the world of outdoor sports, and the Old 96 District is a prime example. So get out and enjoy it! For more information, call the Old 96 District Tourism Commission at 800.849.9633.
