For many men, finding the perfect activity to invite your daughter to do with you is often hard. We have the answer! A hike. Each year we are reminded of how many years we have left with the little (or not so little) ones in our life.

Now is the perfect time to create memories outside. Start a tradition hiking some of the best trails South Carolina has to offer, in the Old 96 District. Venture off the beaten path, and find some shade on South Carolina’s most enjoyable hiking trails. South Carolina’s Old 96 District, home to the South Carolina Freshwater Coast™, abounds with hiking trails for all ages and abilities. Many trails feature educational opportunities, whether it’s discovery of plant and animal life or learning about the history of the region.

Plan your daddy-daughter hiking excursion based on the length of the trail and your ability. Carry plenty of water for your expected time on the trail and let someone know where you are starting and when you expect to return. Battlefield Trail, a 1.5-mile trail in Laurens County, begins at the Musgrove Mill State Historic Site and leads to an overlook at Horseshoe Falls. The falls are the perfect spot for you and your daughter to share a picnic lunch. The trail then continues to the battlefield area and features interpretive signage explaining the story of the Revolutionary War battle of Musgrove Mill.

The British Encampment Trail is a scenic one-mile loop trail that runs along the Enoree River from the Musgrove Mill State Historic Site. The length and terrain of the trail are perfect for younger or new hikers. Cedar Bluff Trail in Calhoun Falls State Park is a loop trail through a forest of pines and cedars that offers views of Lake Russell. As your endurance and quest for adventure grows, explore longer trails like the Parsons Mountain Hiking trails in Abbeville. Each one is just over a mile in length and they feature gold mines and activities of the early settlers.

Explore the outdoors in South Carolina’s Old 96 District with your daughter and build memories to last a lifetime.
