18 Jul Pleasant Lane Acres: A Refuge in the Country
Pleasant Lane Acres Bed & Breakfast in the Old 96 District is a beautiful refuge in the country. The B & B is several miles outside of historic Edgefield, South Carolina. As you get closer to your destination, the city will fade away and the homes and businesses in the Old 96 District are replaced by ancient Cedar Oak and Pecan trees. While you soak in the beauty of the area, prepare yourself for a special experience. Turn up the driveway lined with Oak trees, a reminiscent of the old south in its glory. You will find yourself more relaxed before you reach the front door. Don and Barbara Rupert will be there to greet you.
The Rupert’s have put their hearts and souls into Pleasant Lane Acres. They opened their doors in 1998. Don spent 10 years renovating this late 19th century “farmhouse” in the Old 96 District into a quiet refuge for guests. Floor to ceiling is restored to its original glory. Soak in the huge front porch, which is perfect for reading, sipping tea or snoozing during your visit. When you walk through the front door, notice the heirloom furnishings meticulously placed in the perfect spot. There are nine working fireplaces in the B & B, including the bedrooms. So, it’s the perfect spot to spend a cozy Fall weekend visit. The claw foot tub in “Stewart’s Room” is the perfect place to soak your troubles away. Barbara worked in hospitality before “retiring” to Pleasant Lane Acres. During those years she picked up many tips from the chefs she worked with. She creates gourmet meals for her guests that will leave anyone wanting more. Enjoy a breakfast of famous Edgefield peaches, blueberries and vanilla yogurt. In addition, enjoy the house specialty, Eggs Benedict. If you include the dinner option in your stay, prepare to be impressed. Dinner is a five-course meal served in the dining room on antique plates and sterling silver. Begin with mushrooms stuffed with Boursin cheese with Burgundy wine sauce. Savor herb crusted rack of lamb or shrimp and grits Homemade bread compliments the meal.
After you arrive, have a drink at the bar, chat on the front porch or sitting room. If you prefer some privacy, take a nap in your room that is complete with its own bathroom and cozy chairs. Jeff’s Room, Stewart’s room, Mother’s room and the Carriage House have their own unique features, accommodating anyone wishing to visit Pleasant Lane Acres Bed & Breakfast.
